Art
Art is central to the identity of SCALISCRO, and deeply reflective of its setting. Many of the artists behind the work dotted around the lodge were invited to stay on the estate, and have spent time immersed in the land, weather and stories of the Hebrides.
Paintings
In every room, you’ll discover various commissioned and collected artworks, each piece referencing the drama of the landscape outside.
Look out for a vivid pastel landscape by Gideon Summerfield depicting the Mangersta sea stacks in the dining room and a large-scale canvas by Beatrice Hasell-McCosh in the hallway.
Pieces
Trinkets and bespoke sculptures and hangings await discovery. In the grand entrance hall, a striking tapestry inspired by sea kelpies by Finnish artist Kustaa Saksi sets the scene, and a sculptural mobile hangs from the ceiling as a centrepiece.
Eccentric touches abound, from the plentiful taxidermy to the many curios and treasures in every space. Some pieces were inherited from the former lodge, hinting at a history of island hedonism and its legacy as a gathering place.
Furniture
The blend of antique and contemporary furniture adorning each room reflects a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and a celebration of beautiful materials.
Run a hand up the warm wood of the custom arts and crafts staircase or the thick cedar slab of the coffee table in the lounge. Admire the hand-painted doors leading to bedrooms and revel in the deep pile of the bespoke rugs underfoot.
